MIRIAM MUELLER

is a German native, has a degree in French and English translation and is an accredited interpreter of French. Along with others she has founded several multilingual associations and owns the Start Relocation Service, Start Language Service and Start Medicare in Berlin. She has been helping people from abroad with issues related to the German authorities for years. She studied in Brussels and London and lived in Montpellier, France. She knows about the challenges people face when moving to a different country and goes out of her way to offer competent assistance to private individuals and companies.

LISA WOHLGEMUTH

studied English with the complementary courses Law and Psychology in the beautiful city of Leipzig. She lived, worked and studied in several countries to deepen her intercultural competence and language skills. Having started her professional life as an interpreter and translator, Lisa moved to Berlin in 2012 and has been supporting START Relocation since then. Her main scope of activities comprise visa applications and residence permits, finding new homes for our clients and communicating with German authorities. She also specializes in supporting foreign doctors in getting the state’s permission to work in Germany.

HELEN NEUMANN

studied in Paris and Mexico with a focus on intercultural approaches and theories. After her studies she participated in an advanced training programme in art history and helped setting up international art galleries in Cologne and Berlin. She has been part of the START team since the scratch and helped building up the relocation and immigration department in 2011. She has thoroughly travelled in Asia and Europe and just came back from a half year journey through West Africa.

Familiar with the peculiarities of Berlin and enthusiastic about the characteristics of the city, she knows how to welcome newcomers to her favourite city.

DEBORAH SCHMITZ

studied Political and Social Sciences in Freiburg, Buenos Aires, New Delhi and Cape Town. Her curiosity for different ways of life led her to Spain, rural Ireland and a Kibbutz in Southern Israel. After her studies, Deborah worked with a social startup before she joined START Relocation in 2015. She supports our international clients with high enthusiasm end enjoys helping them settle into their new life in Berlin.

MILENA LÜTZ

is a Berliner. She has a degree in European Studies, Political Science and Linguistics with a focus on the topics of migration and language policy. She is also a qualified Goethe Institute language instructor for German as a foreign language (DaF) and for German as a second language (DaZ). Milena lived in Bonn,  Maastricht and Barcelona before she returned to Berlin in 2012. Having lived abroad for several years, she knows what it means to learn a new language, to integrate into a new culture and to settle down in a new country. This is why she set it as her aim to accompany newcomers as best as possible and keep motivating them on their way. Milena speaks German, English, Spanish, Catalan and some French.

JULIA KOHN

joined us in in 2016. She is a trained graphic designer and has a degree in Cultural Sciences. Julia has been working with a bank and as a project and event manager in Berlin before joining our team. Today she is our contact person for questions about our language school. She creates new courses, taught some of our coaching and has a licence to do the oral telc exam. Julia supports our relocation service as well by taking care of the administration and doing the flat hunt from time to time. Having lived abroad several times, Julia is enthusiastic about learning foreign languages and discovering new places in Berlin as well as abroad.

BETTINA FRECKMANN-SCHEURPFLUG

has experienced the process of relocation several times first-hand, moving with her highly-mobile family to California, Rwanda and Bosnia/Herzegovina. Everytime she moves back to Berlin, her adopted hometown since 1981, she finds the city reinventing itself yet again. Discovering the new and old, Berlin is a great experience she is eager to share with her clients. Bettina is one of our specialists for all matters regarding moving to Berlin – be that flat hunt, school search, opening a bank account or getting registered with the authorities.

BEATE JASSNER

studied business administration and worked several years for real estate companies. She is also trained in intercultural competence. Living in the US and in China with her family, she understands perfectly how much a move affects each family member. No matter from where and which age, Beate supports our Berlin newcomers to feel home soon. She loves to explore the city with her clients and to find the most suitable apartment, house, school or kindergarten. Taking care of all the bureaucratic necessities she makes the transition as smooth as possible.

ANJA KÖHLER

Anja Köhler studied Interior Design and worked several years in this field in Berlin, Tokyo and Los Angeles. In the past 20 years she moved with her husband and later with her two kids 12 times within Germany and other countries. Having relocated together with her family several times, she understands the bureaucratic obstacles and emotional difficulties very well. It is her personal matter to help new “Berliners” to get to know the city and to find the best suitable home.

VICTORIA MESSER

Victoria is a fellow Expat who has several years of experience in the fields of Immigration and Relocation. Her own personal triumphs fighting German bureaucracy led her to a career sorting these things out for others. With a good sense of humor and an understanding of what it’s like to a move to a new country and start out new, she gladly supports Berlin’s newcomers. Victoria studied political science and international studied in Florida. Additionally, she obtained a Master’s degree from the Alice Salomon Hochschule in Berlin by completing a thesis entitled “Welcome to Berlin – A Qualitative Research Evaluating The Experiences of Expatriate Newcomers in Berlin”.
